Join us to learn about Strangulation: Testimony and the Justice System
Strangulation by an intimate partner is a significant predictor of lethality, yet many cases go unrecognized due to a lack of visible injuries and inadequate police training. A study of police officers in British Columbia found that while officers understood the risks of strangulation, additional training is needed to improve recognition, documentation, and appropriate legal response, leading to recommendations for enhanced investigative protocols, brain injury screening, and increased forensic support.
