THE CANADIAN FORENSIC NURSES ASSOCIATION PODCAST

Beyond the Rape Kit: Canada's Forensic Frontline

Forensic nursing is more than just evidence collection. It includes trauma-informed, compassionate care, clinical documentation, and collaboration with law enforcement and legal professionals. Through this podcast, the Canadian Forensic Nurses Association aims to provide education, share expertise, and promote best practices across the country.

Meet the Host - Hannah Varto

Hannah Varto is a Forensic Nurse Practitioner who’s been on Canada’s forensic frontline since 2002 (yep, when many of you were still in diapers). She led the launch of the country’s first NP‑led outpatient clinic for survivors of recent violence, and even started a strangulation clinic (yes, that’s a thing). When she’s not knee‑deep in brain injury research or teaching future forensic nerds at BCIT, she’s busy turning complex medicine into conversations people can understand. Hannah brings grit, humour, and just the right dash of irreverence to Beyond the Rape Kit: Canada’s Forensic Frontline — because forensic nursing is serious work, but talking about it doesn’t have to be boring.
